Only when Gavin stepped off of the ferry did he begin to feel the heat of the island, but as soon as he did, it didn’t feel like work anymore. As far as he was concerned, this was a vacation on the deserted tropical island of La Portchesca, a few miles east of the Virgin Islands. Gavin Macintosh was just seventeen, and getting to work with this mysterious director on a secret project was going to shoot his career up into the sky. They would be shooting in Backteach Bay, and all Gavin could hear whenever his agent said the name was the sound of waves crashing as he layed on the sandy shore. Noah sat quietly on his bed with his feet dangling off the edge. As he held onto the edge of the mattress with curled fingers, he stared blankly at his bobbing legs. The boy bit his lip and looked around the room, but he still couldn't think of a single thing. He blew his dark hair out of his eyes. At the same time, Aaron couldn’t believe his ears. There was no thumping, no cries, good or bad, nor off-key singing to be heard as he walked upstairs. Just silence. His brother’s door was wide open, revealing a sullen fourth-grader sitting quietly on his bed.
Laughing, Aaron said, “What’s the matter?” To which Noah s
